The activity of the Institute is also aimed at supporting the collective practices and public policies of the metropolis, in order to move towards an inclusive, sustainable, innovative and shared prosperity model. A polycentric and resilient metropolitan city, which advances towards socio-spatial justice, the ecological transition and democratic governance. The main lines of research of the Institut Metròpoli are organized around the following areas:

  • Social and urban cohesion
  • Dynamics and policies of housing
  • Coexistence and urban security
  • Regional and urban economy
  • Dynamics and mobility policies

The Institut Metròpoli also develops the Barcelona Metropolitan Indicators System (SIMBA) as a comprehensive platform of indicators linked to all areas of research, and the Cartographic Database of Equipments in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.

The Institute search is structured around three components. A) The Metropolitan Information Systems (surveys on the set of thematic areas) in order to provide the metropolitan area with a solid and up-to-date knowledge base infrastructure.
